Join us for a debate like no other where you’ll go head-to-head on some of the most legendary figures and myths in American history, from Davy Crockett and Paul Bunyan to Bigfoot and beyond.

Why is this history important? These tall tales aren't just fun stories—they’ve shaped the American spirit and continue to influence how we see ourselves today! In this fast-paced debate class, you’ll not only learn about these legendary figures but also discover how they still impact our culture. History is alive, exciting, and full of surprises, and you’ll get to be part of it in a way you’ve never experienced before!

• Date: April 15th

• Time: 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM

• Location: 1301 N Oregon, 2nd Floor

• Ages: Recommended for 8+ (Must attend the 12:15 class to participate)

Class Format:

• 30 minutes of brainstorming: You’ll team up and pick a side on a debate topic related to the folklore we discussed earlier. You’ll have 30 minutes to form your best arguments, get creative, and prepare for the showdown!

• 30 minutes of all-out debate: It’s time for the ultimate debate battle! Teams will face off, presenting their side of the argument, challenging each other’s ideas, and maybe even turning some tall tales upside down!

Possible Debate Topics:

1. Is Paul Bunyan an American hero or just a tall tale?

2. Bigfoot: Real creature or the ultimate myth?

3. Do Tall Tales like Davy Crockett build national pride, or just mislead us about history?

4. Is the storytelling tradition of American folklore more important than the facts behind them?

5. Can legends like the Jersey Devil or Mothman shape regional identity as much as real historical figures?
